How to brief a 3D or video studio

Short answer: A good creative brief answers six things in one page. What is it, who is it for, where will it run, what should it feel like (with references), what assets you already have, and your deadline and budget range. With those, a studio can give you an accurate fixed quote within a day.

The one-page brief template

  1. The thing: product, game, brand or idea, and a link if one exists.
  2. The goal: launch, sell more, explain, pitch, or fill a content calendar.
  3. The audience: who should watch or see it.
  4. The channels: website, Amazon, Instagram/TikTok, YouTube, TV, or in-game.
  5. The feel: 2–3 reference links and what you like about each.
  6. What you have: CAD, footage, logos, brand guide, existing models.
  7. Timing & budget: deadline and a rough range.

Questions clients ask

Do I need a script or storyboard before contacting a studio?

No. A goal and a few references are enough. A good studio will propose the concept, script and storyboard as part of the project.

Should I share my budget?

A rough range helps a lot. It lets the studio suggest the best option for that budget instead of guessing, and it doesn't mean you will be charged the maximum.
